# Audience order

> Order respondents through poll&roll: criteria, feasibility, budget and placing the order.

Rather than bringing your own panel, you can order the audience directly in poll\&roll. You describe your target, the platform queries the panel provider, displays the **Feasibility** and the **Budget**, then launches fieldwork for you once you order.

## Before you start

The **Order an audience through poll\&roll** button only appears if three conditions are met.

| Condition | Detail |
| - | - |
| **A single sample source** | The survey must have only one [sample source](/en/collecte/sources). Once the order is created, you can no longer add another one. |
| **A panel-type sample source** | The sample source's provider must be **Consumer panel**. |
| **A current contract** | Your organization must have a current contract. |

<Note>
  The sample size and the country are those of the sample source. Set them before creating the order: they are what determines feasibility.
</Note>

## Create the order

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the sample source">
    In data collection, go to **Sample source** and open the sample source concerned.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Order an audience">
    Click **Order an audience through poll\&roll**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Fill in the General tab">
    Describe the language, the field time, and the expected interview length and incidence rate.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Specify the target in Qualifications">
    Select the panel's sociodemographic criteria that define your target.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Link your quotas in Quotas">
    Match your poll\&roll quotas to the panel's qualifications.
  </Step>
</Steps>

The order is then configured in three tabs: **General**, **Qualifications** and **Quotas**.

## General tab

| Field | What it is |
| - | - |
| **Language** | The language in which the questionnaire will be administered. Only the survey languages matching the sample source's country are offered. |
| **Field time** | The number of days over which to spread collection. The provider smooths the completes over that period. |
| **Expected length of interview** (LOI) | The expected average length of an interview, in minutes. |
| **Expected questionnaire incidence rate** (IR) | The share of respondents who will complete the questionnaire, as a percentage. |

<Warning>
  The IR you declare is decisive: it is what sets the price. It is pulled down by your target's incidence, the complexity of your quotas and the questionnaire programming (quota-full, screen outs and incompletes). An over-optimistic IR exposes fieldwork to being suspended part-way through.
</Warning>

## Qualifications tab

Qualifications describe your target in the panel's terms. Eight criteria are available:

| Criterion | Type |
| - | - |
| **Gender** | Item selection |
| **Age** | Range (from 13 to 99 years old) |
| **Household income** | Range, in the currency of the sample source's country |
| **Employment** | Item selection |
| **Education** | Item selection |
| **Relationship** | Item selection |
| **Children** | Item selection |
| **Device** | Item selection (desktop, mobile, tablet) |

Each criterion opens as an accordion. For item-based criteria, tick the items you are targeting, or use **Select/unselect all**. A badge shows the state of the criterion: **All** if no restriction is set, otherwise the detail of your selection.

<Tip>
  Only qualify what really defines your target. Each criterion narrows the available pool, and therefore feasibility, and pushes up the cost per interview.
</Tip>

<Warning>
  Changing the qualifications deletes the quotas linked to them. The platform confirms this with you before saving, and you will have to redo the links in the **Quotas** tab.
</Warning>

## Quotas tab

Your poll\&roll [quotas](/en/collecte/quotas) and the panel's qualifications are two separate things. This tab links them, so that the provider steers its recruitment on your objectives.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Link a quota">
    Click **Link a quota to the audience order**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose the quota and the qualification">
    Select a quota, then the panel qualification that matches it.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Match the items">
    Match each item of your quota to the equivalent panel condition. For age and income, enter the bounds of each item.
  </Step>
</Steps>

A few rules to know:

* Only **flat quotas** can be linked. Crossed quotas cannot.
* A quota links to **only one** qualification, and a qualification to **only one** quota.
* For age and income, the ranges must be **continuous** and cover every possible value.

<Warning>
  Unlinked quotas lead to a decrease in the questionnaire incidence rate: the provider sends respondents whom your quotas then refuse. A warning appears in the **Quotas** tab of data collection as long as quotas remain unlinked.
</Warning>

## Feasibility and budget

The summary, on the right of the screen, recaps your settings and displays two indicators queried from the provider:

* **Feasibility**: the number of interviews the panel estimates it can deliver on your target. A green badge signals sufficient feasibility, an alert badge insufficient feasibility or feasibility that is just at the limit of your sample size.
* **Budget (VATE)**: the fieldwork budget, excluding platform usage fees.

<Note>
  Every change to the order resets feasibility and budget: they are recomputed the next time they are displayed. An unused estimate is also refreshed after 24 hours. A calculation time of a few seconds is normal.
</Note>

## Place the order

When the order is feasible, the **Launch** step of the journey displays the order summary instead of the usual fieldwork URLs.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Check the summary">
    Check the sample source, the country, the sample size, the language, the IR, the LOI, the field time, the qualifications, the linked quotas and the budget.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Accept the conditions">
    Tick the terms and conditions. Confirmation stays inactive as long as the order is not feasible.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Place order">
    Click **Place order**. An order reference is displayed and a confirmation e-mail is sent to you.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Warning>
  Once the order is placed, the survey can no longer be modified: not the questionnaire, not the sample sources, not the quotas, not the redirections. Do your checks before confirming.
</Warning>

## What poll\&roll takes care of

Once you order, several steps you usually handle by hand become automatic.

| Step | What happens |
| - | - |
| **[Redirections](/en/collecte/redirections)** | The redirection URLs (complete, quality, quota full, screen out) are created automatically, pointing to the provider. You do not enter them. |
| **[Launch](/en/collecte/lancement)** | Fieldwork is opened by the platform. The survey moves to **Fieldwork** without any action on your part. |
| **[Auto-close fieldwork](/en/collecte/parametres-terrain)** | Automatic fieldwork closing is enabled by default and cannot be disabled. |

[Fieldwork progress](/en/collecte/suivi-de-terrain) and the [interview list](/en/collecte/liste-des-interviews) work as usual: you follow collection as on any other sample source.

## Suspension for deviation from the specifications

The budget rests on the IR and the LOI you declared. The platform checks them at the start of fieldwork, once **10%** of the sample has been collected — the equivalent of an automatic soft launch.

If the actual cost per interview exceeds the planned cost by more than **20%**, fieldwork is **suspended** and an e-mail notifies you, with the detail of the declared and actual values. Without action on your part, fieldwork remains suspended: reply to that e-mail to identify the blocking point and allow fieldwork to resume.

<Tip>
  To avoid suspension, declare a realistic IR, link all your quotas and test the interview length on the final questionnaire before ordering.
</Tip>

## Remove an order

As long as the order has not been placed, you can delete it from the sample source. The survey becomes a standard survey again: you get back the ability to add other sample sources, define your redirections and open fieldwork yourself from the [Launch](/en/collecte/lancement) tab.
