# Quotas

> Frame the sample: objectives per profile, leeway, target quotas and follow up.

Quotas set the number of respondents you are aiming for per profile. They are set **in individuals** (a number of people), as opposed to weighting, which is expressed as a percentage.

## Set quotas

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the Quotas tab">
    Go to the **Quotas** tab in data collection.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Flat or crossed">
    Set **Flat** quotas (gender, age, region, and so on) or **Crossed** quotas: one variable in columns, one variable in rows.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Adjust the objectives">
    The platform proposes balanced quotas by default. Change them if needed.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Set the leeway">
    Define the margin accepted around each objective.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Leeway

Leeway is **5% by default** at creation. You change it globally (in the quota settings) or quota by quota.

<Tip>
  Keep a global leeway of 5%, then widen it on a case-by-case basis. For example: move a region to 15% at the end of fieldwork to close out collection.
</Tip>

## Target quotas

A target quota follows the same logic as a quota, but with **leeway at 0**: you get an exact number of people per item.

## Follow up

Follow up lets you **track a key variable during fieldwork without setting an objective for it**. Unlike quotas, which are restricted to single choice questions, it accepts **Multiple choice** questions (awareness, purchase, and so on).

<Note>
  Quotas are set in **individuals**. [Weighting](/en/collecte/redressement) is expressed as a **percentage**. These are two separate settings.
