# Survey settings

> Set the display on the respondent side, the quality check, the languages and the styling of the questionnaire.

Some settings do not concern one particular question, but **the whole questionnaire**. They are found in the survey settings. Set them while the survey is in draft: when fieldwork is launched, the questionnaire is locked.

## Display on the respondent side

You choose how the questionnaire is presented to the respondent.

| Setting | Options |
| - | - |
| **Questionnaire display mode** | **Single page** (the questions stack up, the respondent sees the history of their answers) or **Multiple pages** (one question at a time). |
| **Automatic question forwarding** | On a single choice question, the click moves straight on to the next question. |
| **Going back** | Whether or not to allow the respondent to go back to their answers. |

## Randomize sections

**Randomize sections** is triggered here, in the survey settings. It presents the sections in a different order depending on the respondent.

<Note>
  Not to be confused with the randomization **of the questions within a section**, which is set in the section itself. See [Layout](/en/questionnaire/mise-en-page).
</Note>

## Quality check

The **Quality check** automatically excludes suspicious respondents: *speeders* (respondents who are too fast) and *straightliners* (who always give the same answer, especially in grids). It is **not turned on by default**: remember to turn it on here. The respondents that are set aside receive a "quality" status, distinct from the Completes and the Screen outs.

## Manage languages

The questionnaire can be multilingual.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Start from the master language">
    The **Master language** is the one chosen when the survey was created. It is the language you enter the questionnaire in and the one the results are displayed in.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add languages">
    Add the languages you want. **Regional languages** share the same base language, with translations adapted per country (e.g. Germany and Austria).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Translate">
    Two methods: **CSV export** (fill in the translation column opposite each label, then re-import), or **automatic generation by AI** (a few minutes).
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Tip>
  AI translation is of good quality on European languages. Have it proofread for marketing wording and industry jargon.
</Tip>

<Note>
  To let the respondent choose their language at the beginning of the path, add a **Locale choice** question. See [Question types](/en/questionnaire/types-de-questions).
</Note>

## Visual customization

By default, the respondent questionnaire carries poll\&roll's colors and logo. You can replace it with your own visual identity thanks to a **theme**.

A questionnaire theme brings together two elements:

* a **color scheme**: the main color (progress bar and question background), the main text color, and the secondary colors (answers and associated text);
* a **logo**, which replaces poll\&roll's.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Create the color scheme and the theme">
    The color scheme and the theme are created **at organization level**, in the **Questionnaire customization** tab. Once created, the theme can be attached to a template or chosen on the fly — the display updates automatically.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Apply the theme to the survey">
    On the survey, choose the theme you want. You can keep the organization's theme while placing **your client's logo**: that particular setting is made at survey level.
  </Step>
</Steps>
