# Building a report

> Generate a PowerPoint report from your results, choose a template and customize your slides.

The **Reports** tab is where you build a PowerPoint **report**, slide by slide, from the survey results. A report is a sequence of **slides**. It carries over all the features of the Results tab, plus options of its own.

<Tip>
  The **Assistant** tab can also build and edit your reports for you — add a chart to a slide, filter a report, write a summary… See [Querying your results with AI](/en/assistant/introduction).
</Tip>

## Create a report

Click **Create a report**, then choose a starting template.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the Reports tab">
    In your survey, go to **Reports** and click **Create a report**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose a template">
    Four templates are available (see the table below).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Set the template options">
    For a crossed or comparison report: crosstab variable, total column or not, chart type (bars, lines or table), significance test type (**Columns compared to the total**, **in pairs** or **to the previous**).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Request the summaries or not">
    At creation time, you choose whether to add an AI-generated **Summary** on each slide, along with an overall summary of the report.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Confirm">
    The report is generated: one slide per question, according to the template you chose.
  </Step>
</Steps>

### The four templates

| Template | What it generates |
| - | - |
| **Full questionnaire** | One slide per question, flat, automatically. This is the one-click **Top Line** report. |
| **Crossed by one question** | One slide per question, crossed by the variable you choose (socio-demographic or cell). |
| **Comparison** | One slide per question, with all the surveys from the survey comparison. |
| **Blank** | An empty report, whose slides you create by hand. |

### Create a report with the AI assistant

To have AI build the report for you, click **Create a report with the AI assistant**, next to the form's submit button. A new conversation opens in the **Assistant** tab, with a request already written: create a report that presents the survey's results and addresses its objectives, based only on the available data. Review it, adjust it if needed, then send it. See [Querying your results with AI](/en/assistant/introduction).

<Tip>
  The quality of the summaries and of the report built by the assistant depends on the **Background and objectives** entered on the survey. The more precise they are, the more relevant the result.
</Tip>

## Summaries

A **Summary** is an analysis comment generated by AI.

* **Slide summary**: one sentence of analysis on a slide. Available on every template, except the blank report (no data).
* **Overall summary**: a recap of all the results. Generated along with the slide summaries when you request them at creation time.

You can also generate a summary **afterwards**, even if you did not request one at creation time.

<Note>
  AI-generated summaries carry a small **gold badge**; its tooltip shows the generation date. It disappears as soon as you edit the comment (a space is enough). It is a safeguard: the badge flags a text that has not been reviewed yet.
</Note>

## Customize a slide

The report's slide list shows a **thumbnail** of each slide, refreshed in the background a few seconds after each change.

### Choose a layout

* **Free-form slide**: as many charts as you want.
* **Predefined layouts**: two charts side by side, three, one above and one below, and so on.
* **Divider slide**: a separator slide, numbered automatically (01, 02, and so on). Its numbering cannot be changed on the platform; it can be after export.

### Choose a chart type

| Type | Use |
| - | - |
| **Standard chart** | One question, flat. |
| **Crossed chart** | Crossed by a variable, or by a banner. Displaying it as a table is often easier to read. |
| **Comparison chart** | One question tracked across several waves. Lines are recommended. |
| **Recap table** | Several questions or items brought together in a single table, via **Update data source**. |
| **Importance-performance matrix** | Can be inserted if it has been created in the statistical analyses. |

### Format a chart

* **Sort** the items, or align them with the order of another chart (useful for a brand funnel: awareness, consideration, purchase).
* **Color a specific item** (for example gold for the client's brand).
* **Hide items** to keep only the most relevant ones.
* **Display or hide labels**.
* **Display subtotals only**.
* **Duplicate a chart** on the slide (for example total base on the left, subtarget on the right).
* **Customize the caption**: replace the technical label of the filters with clear wording (for example "asked to those aware of the brand").
* **Change the basis for displaying results** of the chart: questionnaire flow or total base.

### Set up the slide

* **Default structure**: each slide carries over the arrangement defined for your organization (title, indicator, chart, caption). This structure is edited in your **organization's template**.
* **Significance test**: the type of test (vs Overall, in pairs, vs the previous) is set slide by slide. A single slide carries only **one type of test**, so as not to mix two comparison logics.
* **Add a shape**: insert a shape on the slide using the button in the top right.

## Filter a report

A report is filtered at three levels, which stack.

| Level | Scope |
| - | - |
| **Report** | Every slide (for example under 35s). |
| **Slide** | One specific slide (for example North region). |
| **Chart** | One specific chart (for example people in a relationship). |

To remove a filter, click **Overall**.

## Roll out a report as a series

To produce several versions of the same report (one per area, per target, and so on), duplicate it and change only the filter.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Duplicate the report">
    Start from a report that is already formatted and approved.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Change the filter">
    On the copy, apply the filter you want (for example one region).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Repeat">
    Duplicate and refilter as many times as needed.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Note>
  Duplication **does not update the summaries**. Regenerate them, or check that the comment still holds for the new target.
</Note>

## Refresh the charts

The data in a report does not always update on its own.

<Warning>
  After a **Weighting** or a change of variable during fieldwork, remember to click the refresh arrow to refresh all the charts. The update is not systematically automatic.
