Weighting rebalances the sample to align it with objectives. Objectives are expressed as percentages, as opposed to quotas, which are set in individuals. Prepare the weighting during fieldwork: it applies to the data collected.

Three ways to weight

1

From the quotas (the simplest)

In the Weighting tab, reuse the quota objectives directly, then launch the weighting.
2

With custom objectives

Define your own objectives (remove a variable, set a 50/50 on age, and so on), flat or crossed like quotas. Only on Single choice questions: for a multiple choice question, create as many yes/no recodes.
3

By importing external weights

Keep the interview ID and the weight. Use dots as the decimal separator (not commas). Save as UTF-8 CSV, then choose Import weights.
The interview ID is the interview’s identifier on the platform: the first column of the interview list. It is the key that links your re-imported file to the platform. Do not confuse it with the panelist ID.
Reusing the quotas fails if the quotas of an iteration add up to more than 100%: a message tells you so, the objectives are not computed and your current objectives are kept. Correct the quotas concerned, then run the reuse again.

Manual weighting

You can edit the coefficients by hand and choose the level of precision (rounding, total = 100%).

Automatic weighting

If the weighting objectives are set before or during fieldwork, the weighting triggers on its own at closing: as soon as the planned number of interviews is reached, fieldwork closes and the weighting runs automatically. Allow a few minutes between the last interview and data being ready. A confirmation e-mail notifies you once the weighting has run.
Automatic closing is set in Fieldwork settings.

The efficiency report

Weighting produces a Weighting efficiency report: weighting efficiency, weights applied and launch date.
Fine-grained data preparation — recodes, crosstabs, coding — is detailed in the Analysis stage.
